Shimla has always grabbed the attention of travellers, family holiday goers and especially the newly wed couples out for their honeymoon. What better way of spending your holidays than exploring the popular holiday destination on the hills of himachal Pradesh.

Honeymoon in Shimla

I know I run the risk of being taken lightly, but this Himachal place is really a stuff dreams are made of (rather, honeymoons are made of). A honeymoon without Shimla is something really unimaginable for me, especially since I myself plan to have my honeymoon here. With Shimla honeymoon packages being gifted around in weddings these days, I am really hoping that one of my relatives will give me this happy treat when I finally tie the knot. Though you can visit this place round the year, there are typically two types of tourists who come here- one is the type which loves to roam about and check out all the attractions including the Christ Church, Scandal Point, Jakhoo Temple, Tara Devi Temple, Viceregal Lodge and blah blah blah. This type usually prefers the summer season when the weather is sunny and cool.

Snowing in Shimla

The other is the kind which loves to come during the winter when it is snowing around. Honeymooners have this secret wish to make the trip when there is cold and snow on the cards. This gives them a good excuse to slip into some body-warming action under the sheets back at the luxury hotels.

Hanuman temple at Jakhoo Hill

By the way, there are plenty of things to see in Shimla, that is once you are done with that 'under the sheet' ...ahem...thing..... and are ready to head for some sightseeing. The Hanuman temple at Jakhoo Hill is the place where you can get 3 things at one go. You can visit a temple (which will help you to compensate for the sin which you committed last night), and to admire the landscape from the vantage point, and also to photograph the monkeys which are literally littered there.

The Mall Road

A honeymoon seems incomplete unless you have made your wife do some shopping. The Mall Road is the perfect hunting ground for any kind of stuff including those souvenirs which she will suddenly wish to buy all. It also has that top attraction called Gaiety Theatre and some nostalgia-evoking coffee houses and restaurants. You will love this spot, no doubt.

Christ Church

Then there is Christ Church which is holy and daunting in architecture. Its magnificence was even captured in one blink-and-you-miss-scene in '3 Idiots'. It is a must-visit attraction and is usually included in most Shimla holiday packages.

The Winter Sports Festival

Since you are on a snowy holiday, how can you miss out on the sports and the fun part? The Winter Sports Festival can be a big draw to all kinds of tourists, even to those lovey-dovey couple who love to get some action (whether under the sheet or outside it) during a Shimla holiday. You need to be at Kufri where you can enjoy some of the best wintry sports. Snow is quite heavy at this place and even the inane horse-riding may appear as thrilling as a dragon ride which Harry, Ron and Hermione took in the final book (now don't tell me you haven't read the Deathly Hallows).

Kufri Zoo

Don't miss out on the Zoo, a prime attraction of Kufri. Now they have also opened the 'Go Karting' track. So you can expect to have a very good time there.

Skiing in Narkanda

For trekking, Mashobra is the place to be at. And for skiing, Narkanda is the best bet. But nothing can beat the charm of the Shimla Ice Skating Rink which is the country's oldest of the kind. If I am not wrong, it was even the highlight of that classic Shashi Kapoor movie in which they had this song 'tera mujhse hai pehle ka naata koi' la la la .....
