Alibag

Alibag is a small town located in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. Alibag was developed in the 17th century by Sarkhel Kanhoji Aangre the naval chief of King Shivaji's Kingdom. It is eminent for its fresh air, clean waters and clean sands.Alibag is was named after a wealthy Muslim "Israeli Ali" who owned several many fruit plantations (like orchards) here, hence the name Ali’s Bag (garden) or Alibag. Alibag 300 years old city, enigmatic capital of Shivaji’s admiral Kanoji Angre, home to a Jewish Synagogue and cemetery, the only place in the konkan to have a Portugese and a Maratha seafort on opposite banks of the same inland waterway.
